Singh told ANI, "Last evening I got to know that some Kashmiri youth have been mistreated. I appeal to all the chief ministers to ensure that no Kashmiri youth is mistreated in any part of the nation. Even they are part of INDIA. No one can rubbish this truth that many people from Kashmir are contributing to India's safety and prosperity."
He further said, "The incident is extremely unfortunate and I condemn it. Strict action will be taken against anyone who mistreats any Kashmiri youth. I appeal to all the youth to consider them as their brothers. They are citizens of our country and part of our family. The people should understand this reality."
He also informed that he had already asked the home ministry to immediately circulate an advisory to all states in this regard.
A group of students of Mewar University at Chittorgrah had gone to buy groceries where locals taunted them as stone-pelters after enquiring their name and home state which resulted in a scuffle. Locals allegedly thrashed the students calling them stone-pelters and anti-nationals, according to media reports.
This is not first such incident; it should be remembered that last year too, some Kashmiri students were thrashed in the same university over rumours of cooking beef.
This is a welcome move by Union Home Minister as too much hatred has been spread in the name of nationalism and anti-nationalism.
