Tamil Nadu: Palaniswamy becomes CM, OPS loses red beacon, Sasikala gets candle making job
Tamil Nadu has found new chief minister in Edappadi K. Palaniswamy, but he would have to win a Vote of Confidence within 15 days on the floor of the house.

Palaniswamy was administered the oath as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on February 16 by governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao.

He has been sworn in as the 13th CM of TN. After him, 30 ministers also took oath in four batches in a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, which is the third ministry in the last 10 months since AIADMK won the assembly elections in May 2016.

Almost simultaneously, police protection given to O Panneerselvam at his official residence was withdrawn. The chief minister's emblem and beacon on his car were also removed.

Palaniswamy was hand-picked and got elected as the leader of AIADMK Legislature Party on February 14 after VK Sasikala, 61, was convicted by the Supreme Court in the 20-year old disproportionate assets case. Sasikala is in jail now and has been given the job of making candles.

Earlier, Palaniswamy had served as Minister for Highways and Minor Ports under Jayalalithaa and O. Panneerselvam as Cms. He is the sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Edappadi in the Salem district in Tamil Nadu.

Palaniswamy has won the election to the state assembly four times, in 1989, 1991, 2011 and 2016 from the Edappadi constituency.
