Swaraj Abhiyan will lead a yatra to drought affected districts of Tamil Nadu to do on-spot survey and to stand beside all suffering farmers.
Swaraj Abhiyan has filed a petition, seeking to add the state of Tamil Nadu as a party to the ongoing Drought Relief PIL in the Supreme Court and has prayed that all reliefs granted to 10 states that had suffered drought in 2015-16 be extended to Tamil Nadu. This includes universal distribution of food grains under Food Security law, provision of nutritional mid day meals to students with eggs or milk, serving of mid day meals during summer vacation, expanding the work availability under Rural Employment Guarantee law, provision of fodder camps for protection of livestock, keeping loan repayment in abeyance, payment of crop loss compensation and granting of fresh crop loans.
Swaraj Abhiyan had brought the severe impact of drought to the attention of the nation way back in 2015 when it filed a PIL in the Supreme Court and obtained historic orders by which widespread relief was directed, which are still being implemented by the Central and state governments.
Earlier, Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav had met the Tamil Nadu farmers and had assured that Swaraj Abhiyan shall file an affidavit on behalf of the farmers of Tamil Nadu in the ongoing Drought PIL filed by Swaraj Abhiyan in the Hon'ble Supreme Court and seek extension of drought relief to Tamil Nadu. That assurance was fulfilled today.
