Study finds toxic chemicals in cheese, but there might be no way out!
So your friend had warned you about those cheese products but you continued to say "more, please!"

But here is a reason why you must not have it anymore. A study has concluded that cheese contains toxic chemicals that could be extremely dangerous for your health.

The chemicals known as phthalates have also been found in macaroni and cheese mixes that are made with powdered cheese. The chemical comes into the products from packaging and the equipment that is used for manufacturing the products. The study has also claimed that it may pose very serious risks to pregnant women and young children.

The study was conducted by the Coalition for Safer Food Processing and Packaging which is basically a group of consumers, scientists, doctors, and health activists.

As per a report in the New York Times, the researchers tested 30 cheese products, and found phthalates in 29 of them. The 30 cheese products include 10 cheese powder samples, 15 natural cheese samples, and 5 sliced cheese samples.

Also, it must be noted that though phthalates have been specifically banned in the United States but the Consumer Product Safety Commission has asked the federal agencies of the United States to consider the chemical risks they pose to health. Phthalates have previously also been linked to birth defects.

What makes things worse is that products that are branded as organic were also found to contain phthalates. In products such as cheese mixes, including the organic ones, the concentration of phthalates was found to be four times higher than the permissible limit.

As per Business Insider, the study was funded by four advocacy groups namely the Environmental Health Strategy Centre, Healthy Babies Bright Futures, The Ecology Center and Safer States.

But given the extent of cheese used in products all over the United States, it might be impossible to get a way out of it.
