Gallup International Survey: Narendra Modi is the third most popular global leader
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been ranked third in Gallup International Association (GIA) and CVoter International joint 41st annual global leadership survey for 2017.

The survey covered 55 countries with a sample size of 53769 voters, out of which only 1006 voters were from India. The survey was carried out considering appreciation or dissatisfaction over a global leader at world stage. PM Modi finished only behind German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, and way ahead of Chinese premier Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Interestingly, American President Donald Trump featured at rock bottom of the list.

The survey estimates popularity perception of the people at global stage. Narendra Modi is the first Indian prime minister to have featured in the top ten twice. In 2015, Modi had been ranked at number five by the same survey. This speaks how the world sees him. This should be a proud moment for India as the rank is not for any individual but rather for the Indian Prime Minister.

However, there are people (Modi haters), who have started questioning the survey. Certain people have ridiculed Modi for being a bronze medal holder. Communists are even more furious because they can't believe how Xi Jinping and Putin finished behind Narendra Modi.

Some antillectuals have stated that Narendra Modi featured at the top due to his excessive foreign trips. To set the record straight for such people, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh too had embarked upon equal number of foreign trips, however, only Modi's trips are always highlighted.

India recently voted against America's move of recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Yet, Modi's popularity soared.

In ASEAN countries, Narendra Modi is more popular than Chinese President Xi Jinping. This proves how Narendra Modi has emerged as a strong leader. Although he is less popular in European countries, he did well in Latin America and in the CIS nations, which were formerly part of the USSR.

The point is simple. When a global leader displays leadership skills, people vote for that leader as per their perceptions in context to issues related to their respective countries.
